Watford v Norwich City

Championship | Vicarage Road
Tuesday, 28 November 2023 @ 8.00pm

Norwich City travel to Watford on late Tuesday in the Championship.

The visitors come into the game on the back of a win in their last match, having beaten Queens Park Rangers 1-0 at home, with a goal from Eui-Jo Hwang.

The Hornets, meanwhile, lost their last match, 2-0 against Leicester City.

With 30 goals in 17 games so far this season, Norwich are the league's third-highest scorers with 1.8 goals per game. But they are conceding more than average too, letting in 32 goals at a rate of 1.9 per game.

Watford, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game. They have conceded 1.2 goals per game.

In Daniel Bachmann, the Hornets can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. He has kept six clean sheets in his 16 appearances this season, and only one other 'keeper – West Bromwich Albion's Alex Palmer – has been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the Championship.

In City's net, Angus Gunn has three clean sheets in 12 games. He has conceded a goal every 64 minutes, 20% more often than the 76 minutes between goals for Bachmann.

In the last 10 years, Watford and Norwich have played each other on 12 occasions. Watford won eight of them and Norwich four.

On average, the Hornets scored 1.3 goals and the Canaries 1.3 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on January 2, when Watford won 1-0 away.

The home team are in reasonable form in the Championship, with three wins and two draws from their last six games.

With two wins and four losses over that period, the Canaries' form is worse – they have taken six points from 18, compared to Watford's 11.

Watford are 15th in the table after 17 games, of which they have won five and drawn six, earning 21 points.

The visitors are two places ahead of the Hornets in 13th, with seven wins and two draws putting them on 23 points.

Tuesday's match will be refereed by Simon Hooper, who has taken charge of two Championship games so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking eight players. He has not awarded any penalties.

The last Norwich game Hooper refereed was the 2-1 loss at home against Middlesbrough on October 24. He is yet to oversee a match featuring Watford this season.
