Rotherham United v Leeds United

Championship | AESSEAL New York Stadium
Friday, 24 November 2023 @ 8.00pm

Mid-season relegation candidates Rotherham United face a challenge against high-flying Leeds United at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Friday.

Rotherham United are 22nd in the Championship table, and have picked up two wins and five draws in their 16 games to date.

Leeds, meanwhile, are third in the standings with 31 points, having won nine and drawn four, and are eight points behind table-toppers Leicester City.

With 15 goals in 16 games so far this season, Rotherham are scoring at below the league average rate with 0.9 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 32 goals at a rate of 2.0 per game.

Leeds, meanwhile, are above average scorers, with 1.7 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.4. They have conceded 1.0 goal per game.

With Illan Meslier between the sticks, Leeds United can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. He has kept six clean sheets in his 16 appearances this season, and only one other 'keeper – West Bromwich Albion's Alex Palmer – has been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the Championship.

In Rotherham United's net, Viktor Johansson has one clean sheet in 16 games. He has conceded a goal every 53 minutes, 90% more often than the 103 minutes between goals for Meslier.

The Millers are in disappointing form in the Championship, with one win and three draws from their last six games.

With five wins and one loss over that period, the visitors' form is much better – they have taken 15 points from 18, compared to the home team's six.

Rotherham's last match was on November 11, a 5-0 loss against Watford.

Leeds beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 last time out, also on November 11, with Daniel James and Joël Piroe on the scoresheet.
