Rotherham United v Ipswich Town
Championship | AESSEAL New York Stadium
Tuesday, 7 November 2023 @ 8.00pm
Early relegation candidates Rotherham United face a challenge against high-flying Ipswich Town at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday.
Rotherham United are 22nd in the Championship table, and have picked up two wins and four draws in their 14 games to date.
The Blues, meanwhile, are second in the standings with 35 points, having won 11 and drawn two, and are four points behind table-toppers Leicester City.
With 31 goals in 14 games so far this season, Ipswich are the league's highest scorers with 2.2 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 17 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.
Rotherham, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 0.9 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.4. They have conceded 1.8 goals per game.
In Václav Hladký, Town can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. He has kept six clean sheets in his 14 appearances this season, and only one other 'keeper – West Bromwich Albion's Alex Palmer – has been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the Championship.
In United's net, Viktor Johansson has one clean sheet in 14 games. He has conceded a goal every 60 minutes, 30% more often than the 79 minutes between goals for Hladký.
The Millers are in disappointing form in the Championship, with one win and two draws from their last six games.
With four wins and two draws over that period, the Blues' form is much better – they have taken 14 points from 18, compared to the hosts' five.
In the last five years, Rotherham and Ipswich have played each other on six occasions. Rotherham won four of them and Ipswich two.
On average, the Millers scored 1.2 goals and the Blues 0.8 in those matches.
Their last meeting was on January 7, when Ipswich won 4-1 at home.
Rotherham's last match was on Saturday, a 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers, with Georgie Kelly getting the goal for the Millers.
Ipswich drew 2-2 with Birmingham City last time out, also on Saturday, with Marcus Harness on the scoresheet.
Tuesday's match will be refereed by Graham Scott, who has taken charge of three Championship games so far this season, issuing one red card and booking 22 players. He has awarded one penalty.
He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Rotherham or Ipswich this season.
