Segunda División | Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere
Friday, 1 December 2023 @ 7.30pm

RCD Espanyol face a challenge to maintain their high-scoring form away against a tight Real Oviedo defence on Friday.

With 29 goals in 17 games, Espanyol are the joint-second-highest scorers in the Segunda División ahead of the 7.30pm kick-off at the Estadio Nuevo Carlos Tartiere.

They face a Real Oviedo side who have scored 15 in 17 matches, but conceded only 11 goals, putting them second among the league's tightest defences – only Leganés have conceded fewer goals.

In Javi Puado, Espanyol have the league's sharpest shooter so far this season. He has notched nine goals in 13 appearances.

His goal rate of one every 118 minutes is much quicker than that of Borja Bastón, Oviedo's top scorer with a goal every 262 minutes, and a total of five goals in 17 games.

RCD Espanyol are fourth in the table after 17 games, of which they have won nine and drawn four, earning 31 points.

Real Oviedo are eight places behind the away side in 12th, with five wins and seven draws putting them on 22 points.

The hosts are in mixed form in the Segunda División, with two wins and three draws from their last six games.

With two wins and two draws over that period, Espanyol's form is slightly worse – they have taken eight points from 18, compared to Oviedo's nine.

Oviedo's last match was on Sunday, a 2-1 loss against Mirandés, with González Tomás getting the goal for Real Oviedo.

Espanyol beat AD Alcorcón 2-0 last time out, also on Sunday, with Jofre Carreras Pagès and Pere Milla on the scoresheet.
