Mid-season relegation candidates Huddersfield Town face a challenge against high-flying Southampton at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

Huddersfield Town are 21st in the Championship table, and have picked up three wins and six draws in their 16 games to date.

The Saints, meanwhile, are fourth in the standings with 30 points, having won nine and drawn three, and are nine points behind table-toppers Leicester City.

With 14 goals in 16 games so far this season, Huddersfield are the league's third-lowest scorers with 0.9 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 28 goals at a rate of 1.8 per game.

Southampton, meanwhile, are above average scorers, with 1.7 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.4. They have conceded 1.6 goals per game.

In Adam Armstrong, the Saints have one of the league's most on-form strikers so far this season. He has notched nine goals in 16 appearances, to sit second in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 152 minutes is much quicker than that of Michal Helik, Town's top scorer with a goal every 360 minutes, and a total of four goals in 16 games.

The Terriers are in disappointing form in the Championship, with one win and two draws from their last six games.

With four wins and two draws over that period, the away side's form is much better – they have taken 14 points from 18, compared to the hosts' five.

Huddersfield's last match was on November 11, a 1-0 loss against Hull City.

Southampton beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 last time out, also on November 11, with Adam Armstrong and William Smallbone on the scoresheet.
