FC Cartagena v Leganés

Segunda División | Estadio Municipal Cartagonova
Sunday, 5 November 2023 @ 5.30pm

Early relegation candidates FC Cartagena face a challenge against high-flying Leganés at the Estadio Municipal Cartagonova on Sunday.

FC Cartagena are rooted to the bottom of the Segunda División table, and have picked up just one win and three draws in their 13 games to date.

Leganés, meanwhile, are top of the standings with 28 points, having won nine and drawn one.

With 20 goals in 13 games so far this season, Leganés are the league's joint-third-highest scorers with 1.5 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in five goals at a rate of 0.4 per game.

Cartagena, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 0.8 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.2. They have conceded 1.6 goals per game.

With Diego Conde between the sticks, the visitors can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. He has kept seven clean sheets in his 11 appearances this season, and no 'keeper has prevented the opposition scoring more often in the Segunda División.

In FC Cartagena's net, Marc Martínez Aranda has one clean sheet in 12 games. He has conceded a goal every 77 minutes, four times as often as the 303 minutes between goals for Conde Alcolado.

The home team are in bad form in the Segunda División, with no wins and three draws from their last six games.

With four wins and a draw over that period, Leganés' form is much better – they have taken 13 points from 18, compared to Cartagena's three.

Over the last two years, Cartagena and Leganés have played each other on three occasions. They won one each, and they drew once.

Their last meeting was on April 1, when Cartagena won 3-1 away.

Cartagena's last match was on October 29, a 2-1 loss against Mirandés, with José Fontán getting the goal for FC Cartagena.

Leganés beat Villarreal II 1-0 last time out, also on October 29, with Sergio González Poirrier on the scoresheet.
