Blackburn Rovers Ladies v London City Lionesses

FA Women's Championship | Lancashire FA County Ground
Sunday, 5 November 2023 @ 2.00pm

ruggling London City Lionesses face Blackburn Rovers Ladies away at Lancashire FA County Ground on Sunday looking to build on a win in their last league outing.

After securing all three points with a 1-0 victory over Southampton Women on October 22, the Lionesses sit 10th in the FA Women's Championship.

They travel to play a Blackburn Rovers side fifth in the standings, who lost in their last match, 2-1 against Durham Women.

With Alexandra Brooks between the sticks, Blackburn Rovers can rely on one of the league's safest pair of hands. She has kept three clean sheets in her eight appearances this season, and only one other 'keeper – Sunderland Women's Claudia Moan – has been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the FA Women's Championship.

In London City's net, Grace Moloney has two clean sheets in eight games. She has conceded a goal every 55 minutes, 50% more often than the 80 minutes between goals for Brooks.

Rovers are in mixed form in the FA Women's Championship, with three wins and three losses from their last six games.

With a win and a draw over that period, the Lionesses' form is worse – they have taken four points from 18, compared to the hosts' nine.

With seven goals in eight games so far this season, Blackburn Rovers are the league's joint-third-lowest scorers with 0.9 goals per game. But they are conceding fewer than average too, letting in 10 goals at a rate of 1.2 per game.

The away side are also below average scorers, with 0.9 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.4. They have conceded 1.9 goals per game.

In the last three years, Blackburn Rovers and London City have played each other on five occasions. London City won four of them and they drew once.

On average, Rovers scored 0.8 goals and the Lionesses 2.2 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on April 23, when London City won 3-2 away.
